| Description | IMCAP-ND is a musical play-based observational assessment designed to examine the quality of musical interactions between the client and therapist. IMCAP-ND can be used for children, adolescents, and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders. It focuses on 3 main areas while the client is engaged in music making: 1) social-emotional capacities, 2) cognition and perception skills, and 3) overall responsiveness pertaining to musical preferences, perceptual efficiency and self-regulation. Administering IMCAP-ND requires the therapist to improvise music experiences based on the client’s interests, music, and emotionality while providing specific musical cues, according to the protocols, that target particular musical responses within the context of relational music making experiences. Scoring involves the therapist rating the frequency of musical responses as well as the level of extra-musical support provided i.e., verbal, visual, and physical, in order for the client to demonstrate a musical-social capacity. |
